Status message 2846 is generated when a delta site control file is processed on a primary site server in Systems Management Server 2003 (886085)

SYMPTOMS

When you review status messages for the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 SMS_SITE_CONTROL_MANAGER component of the SMS_EXECUTIVE service, you find messages that are similar to the following:
Message ID: 2846
Source: SMS Server
Component: SMS_SITE_CONTROL_MANAGER
Description: the 'Site Definition' item in a site configuration change request in delta site control file does not specify the public key for decrypting the SMS Service account and password.


Additionally, the log file for the SMS_SITE_CONTROL_MANAGER component, driveletter:\Sms\Logs\Sitectrl.log, contains messages that are similar to the following:
WARNING: The 'Site Definition' item in a record contained in delta site control file FileName contains a full version that's older than the current full version. This record and the remaining records in the file are unusable.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • Your SMS 2003 site hierarchy includes at least one primary site and at least one secondary site.
  • A secondary site has sent a delta site control file (*.Ct1) to a primary site.
  • The delta site control file that was sent to the primary site server has a version number that is older than the current version number on the primary site server.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, review the Sitectrl.log file to verify that the problem that was reported by the status message agrees with the information in the log file.
