The SMS reporting point and the SMS server locator point may not correctly upgrade when you upgrade SMS 2003 SP1 Beta to SMS 2003 SP1 on a Windows 2000-based computer (886045)

SYMPTOMS

The following symptoms may occur when you upgrade Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta to SMS 2003 SP1 on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer:
  • The SMS reporting point and the SMS server locator point may not correctly upgrade.
  • The Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) component may stop responding.
  • The Iis5.log file may contain the following error message.

    Note The Iis5.log file is located in the Winnt folder on the SMS site server.
    Title:IIS Setup Error, Msg:CoCreateInstance0x80090006=Invalid Signature.
    The Rsabase.dll file has not been registered correctly. If the issue persists, please re-register the file by using the RegSrv32 command.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the Rsabase.dll file is not registered correctly on the SMS site server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove IIS, re-register the Rsabase.dll file by using the Regsrv32.exe command-line tool, and then reinstall IIS. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the SMS site server, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. In the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, click to clear the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box, and then click Next.
  4. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  5. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 rsabase.dll, and then press ENTER.
  6. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  7. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  8. In the Windows Components Wizard dialog box, click to select the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box, and then click Next to reinstall IIS.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
