The Distribute Software Updates Wizard does not remove the source files for patches that you remove from a package update list in Systems Management Server 2003 (886042)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Distribute Software Updates Wizard to remove one or more patches from the update list of a package, the source files for these patches remain in the package source directory.

When you update the distribution points for the package, these files are stored on the distribution points. Additionally, when you create an advertisement for the package, clients receive these files with the package.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, manually remove the unwanted files from the package source folder, and then update the distribution points.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
