You cannot change the package properties while the SMS 2003 Distribution Manager copies the package source files to the distribution point (886027)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SYMPTOMSAfter you distribute a package and then change one or more values in the package properties dialog box, the changes do not take effect. This symptom occurs after you use Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 to create and distribute a package.CAUSEThis behavior occurs if you try to change the package properties while the SMS 2003 Distribution Manager copies the package source files to the distribution point. For example, when you complete the following procedure, the SMS 2003 Distribution Manager must copy the package source files from the package source folder to the distribution point: - You use SMS 2003 to create and distribute a package.
- You select the Access distribution point folder through common SMS package share option on the Data Access tab of the package properties dialog box.
- You distribute the package that you created.
The SMS 2003 Distribution Manager does not accept any changes while it copies source files. Therefore, any changes that are made to the package properties do not take effect during the package copy process. WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, change the package source files folder either before or after the SMS 2003 Distribution Manager copies the packages.
You can use Package Status in the SMS 2003 Administrator console to view the progress of the distribution of your packages to distribution points. To do this, follow these steps: - Click Start, point to Programs, point to Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Administrator Console.
- In the SMS Administrator console, expand Site Database (SiteCode-SiteName), expand System Status, expand Package Status, expand the package that you want to view, and then click SiteCode-SiteName.
- The package status information is displayed in the right pane of the SMS Administrator console. This includes the name of the distribution point, the state of the package, and when the package was successfully copied to the distribution point.
Note Distributing packages to distribution points may require lots of network capacity, depending on the size of the package and network availability. Consider the timing of package distribution tasks and the number of distribution points to be updated at the same time before you distribute packages to SMS clients. STATUS
This behavior is by design.
