You cannot use the Systems Management Server 2003 Patch agent to load updates and a service pack in the same software update cycle (886025)

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Patch agent to load updates and a service pack in the same software update cycle, some updates are not installed correctly.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Patch agent does not support exclusive updates.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem if a product version has several available updates and a service pack, first apply the service pack, and then apply the patches.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
