Your Windows Server 2003-based terminal server that uses the UPHClean utility to unload user profiles when users log off may suddenly stop responding (885958)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based terminal server that uses the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (UPHClean) utility to unload user profiles when users log off, the terminal server may suddenly stop responding. Also, you may receive an error message that contains one of the following phrases:
  • Stop 0x5
  • Stop 0x50
  • Stop 0xA
The following event may be recorded in the System event log:
Source: Save Dump
Event ID: 1001
Type: Information
Description: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was:
0x00000005 (0x8998ed88, 0x88a7e2e0, 0x00000001, 0x899902e0).
A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you use a version of the UPHClean utility that is earlier than version 1.5.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and then install the latest version of the UPHClean utility. To download the latest version of the UPHClean utility, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Version 1.5.0.11 of the UPHClean utility is known to cause the errors that are described in the "Symptoms" section. To resolve the issue, you must install version 1.5.5.21 of the UPHClean utility or later.
