SYMPTOMS
When you run the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you may receive the following error message:
There is no such object on the server.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
- The computer that you run the ADMT on is not a domain controller.
- The computer that you run the ADMT on is running a non-English language version of Windows Server 2003.
In this scenario, the ADMT may try to validate a security group that has a localized name by using the security identifier (SID). The ADMT incorrectly performs this lookup on the local computer. This lookup fails if the local computer is not a domain controller.
