INTRODUCTION
This article describes the Microsoft Word 2002 issues that are fixed in the Word 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated September 27, 2004.

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
- When you scroll up and down by using the arrow buttons that are on the vertical scroll bar in a Word 2002 document, one or more of the following symptoms may occur:
- The text that is at the top of the document may disappear.
- The text may be duplicated.
- The text that you copy and paste from a different part of the document may actually copy and paste the incorrect text.
- If you do all the following actions in the order that they are listed in a Word 2002 document that is protected for forms, Word 2002 may stop responding:
- You type text in a form field.
- You unprotect the forms document.
- You type text in a non-form field area of the forms document.
- You type text that causes the AutoCorrect functionality of Word 2002 to correct your typing.
Additionally, you may receive the following error message: Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Office XP updates and patches released after September 2002 may require Windows Installer 2.0
- The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). However, we have tested this fix on a computer that is running Office XP SP3 more extensively than we have on a computer that is running Office XP SP2. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office XP SP2, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.
