SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based server cluster node, when you try to change the Cluster service account password across multiple cluster nodes by using the cluster command, the Cluster services that are running on the cluster nodes may stop.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a race condition. A race condition occurs if the cluster node cannot change the old password to the new password in the local cache of the cluster node. As a result, when the domain controller for that cluster node tries to authenticate a process by using the new password, the new password is not found. Therefore, the cluster node cannot authenticate the process.
