You receive an "An import error occurred" error message when you click "Build Team from Enterprise" on the Tools menu in Project Professional 2003 (885856)

SYMPTOMS

You experience the following symptoms in Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 when you work with a project that is published to Microsoft Office Project Server 2003:
  • When you click Build Team from Enterprise on the Tools menu, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
    An import error occurred.
    Check row 4 column Reserved_ResumeDate.
    This is not a valid date, or it is outside the range of dates, which is January 1, 1984 through December 31 2049. Type a date in the correct format: for example, 6/15/00 or June 15, 2000.

    To continue importing with additional error messages, click Yes. To continue importing with no error messages, click No. To stop importing, click Cancel.
  • When you try to open the project from Project Server 2003, or when you try to save the project to Project Server 2003, you receive the following error message:
    There was an error opening the enterprise resource pool. You may not have sufficient permission to access the selected resource(s). Would you like to retry?

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Project Server 2003 database contains damaged summary resource assignment information. This problem may occur if Project Professional 2003 incorrectly processes summary resource assignment data when the data is written to the Project Server 2003 database.

RESOLUTION

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Project 2003 post-Service Pack 1 Hotfix Package that is dated September 24, 2004. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

This hotfix applies to new summary resource assignment data that is written to the Project Server 2003 database.

This hotfix also applies to summary resource assignment data that is contained in existing projects. To fix this problem for existing projects after you install the hotfix, open the project, modify the project, and then save the project. When you do this, the summary resource assignment data is rewritten.
