FIX: You may receive a "The Record Tag is not within the total length of the record" error message when you compile a flat file schema in BizTalk Server 2004 (885847)

SYMPTOMS

When you design a flat file schema that parses multiple positional records that have different total lengths in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004, you may receive the following error message when you compile the schema:
Compile Error Record "{0}" - The Record Tag is not within the total length of the record.

CAUSE

The problem occurs when the parent record delimiter is used as the tag for each positional record and the positional records are of a different total length.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was corrected in BizTalk Server 2004 Service Pack 1.

MORE INFORMATION

When a tag is outside the boundary of a positional record, the parsing of the flat file can succeed in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, but the compilation will always fail. This hotfix changes the error message to a warning message. Therefore, when you compile the flat file schema, the compilation is successful.
