Error events 25267 and 25268 may appear multiple times in the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Operator Console (885729)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2005

SYMPTOMS

The following Error events may appear multiple times in the Events view of the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Operator Console: Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Operations Manager
Event Category: MOM Agent
Event ID: 25267

Description:
The Microsoft Operations Manager performance provider could not access performance counters on computer computer_name. Microsoft Operations Manager will not monitor performance counters on this computer until they become available. Event Type: Information
Event Source: Microsoft Operations Manager
Event Category: MOM Agent
Event ID: 25268

Description:
The Microsoft Operations Manager successfully loaded performance counters on computer computer_name after previous failure(s) and will start monitoring them.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
  • The remote server is unavailable.
  • Multiple Windows Server Cluster virtual servers are running on the same computer.

Note When multiple Windows Server Cluster virtual servers are running on the same computer, a conflict may occur that prevents MOM 2005 from accessing the performance counters for the Windows Server Cluster. When MOM 2005 can access the performance counters again, monitoring of the virtual servers is restored.

WORKAROUND

You can safely ignore event 25267 and event 25268. MOM 2005 will retry the operation and then resume its monitoring of the clustered virtual servers when access to the performance counters is restored.
