Invalid PID is created when you upgrade to Works Suite 2005 (885689)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works Suite 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade to Microsoft Works Suite 2005, the Product ID (PID) that is created for your installation may be an invalid number for Works Suite 2005.

Note An invalid PID for Works Suite 2005 starts with 69294.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if all the following conditions are true:
  • You have Microsoft Works 8.0 installed.
  • You have installed any one of the following language versions of Works 8.0, or you are trying to upgrade to any one of the following language versions of Works Suite 2005:
    • French
    • German
    • Italian
    • Spanish

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove both Works 8.0 and Works Suite 2005. After you restart your computer, install Works Suite 2005.

To do this, follow these steps.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. In the Currently installed programs list, click your Works 8.0 or Works Suite 2005 program.
  3. Click Remove to remove the program from your computer.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each version of Works 8.0 and Works Suite 2005 that you have installed.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Install Works Suite 2005.

  1. Start one of the Works Suite 2005 programs.
  2. On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Works.
