SNA 4.0 or Host Integration Server 2000 Host Account Cache components are not detected and you do not receive an error message when you install Host Integration Server 2004 on a domain controller (885647)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 on a domain controller that only has SNA 4.0 or Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 Host Account Cache components installed, installation will complete and you will not receive an error message. This behavior is incorrect. You should not be able to upgrade to Host Integration Server 2004 on a computer that has these Host Account Cache components installed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Host Integration Server 2004 Setup program does not identify the SNA 4.0 components correctly and lets the installation complete without an error message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

Existing Host Account Cache components are not upgraded when you install Host Integration Server 2004 because of the change in the program model. You must manually migrate the existing Host Account Cache components to the new Enterprise Single Sign-On (SSO) model. However, because the Host Integration Server 2004 Setup program does not modify the existing Host Account Cache components, you may still be able to manually migrate to the Enterprise SSO model even after you install Host Integration Server 2004.

For more information about manual migration to the Enterprise SSO model, see "Installing Enterprise Single Sign-On" in Host Integration Server 2004 online Help.
