The Tablet PC Recognizer Pack and Tablet PC MUI do not install in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 (885498)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Recognizer Pack or the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Multilingual User Interface (MUI) and Recognizer Pack on a Tablet PC that is running Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, you receive one of the following error messages:
Installation Error

Tablet PC Multilingual User Interface (MUI) and Recognizer Pack cannot be installed on this computer. This version of MUI and Recognizer Pack can be installed only on tablet computers running an earlier version of Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.

You are trying to install the Microsoft Windows Tablet PC Recognizer Pack on an updated version of Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. The Microsoft Windows Tablet PC Recognizer Pack is only intended to be run on the initial release of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.

CAUSE

The Tablet PC Recognizer Pack and the Tablet PC MUI and Recognizer Pack can be installed only on the initial Windows XP Tablet PC Edition release.

WORKAROUND

You can work around this issue if you upgraded from the initial release to Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 by installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). To do this, remove Windows XP SP2 from your Tablet PC, install the package that you want, and then upgrade to Windows XP SP2.

For those installations that were performed before you used Windows XP SP2 to upgrade to Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, the Add or Remove Programs entry for the installed package will be removed. This behavior is also by design. The installer is not supported in Windows XP SP2, and you cannot change, add, or remove specific Recognizer Pack languages.
