FIX: Impersonation may not work when you call a .NET remote object from a server that is running IIS together with the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (885454)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

SYMPTOMS

Impersonation may not work as expected when the following conditions are true:
  • A server is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) together with the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1). This server hosts an ASPX application in IIS.
  • IIS is installed on a second computer. The second computer hosts a Microsoft .NET remote object.
  • You call the .NET remote object that is hosted on the second computer from the ASPX application that is hosted on the server.
For example, a method may run under the ASPNET account instead of the IIS anonymous account.

This problem occurs even if the Web.config file contains the <identity impersonate = "true" /> and <authentication mode="Windows" /> settings.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you make an asynchronous call to a remote method that has the OneWay attribute.
