SYMPTOMS

You define dynamic dimension security for a parent-child dimension in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, and then you use the Datamember function on the dimension. If you use Analysis Manager to access data in the parent-child dimension, Analysis Manager unexpectedly stops responding. You receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Unable to process one or more commands. The operation requested failed due to security problems - the underlying data structure is not valid.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
  • The named set is defined in a virtual cube or the Datamember function is included in the named set definition.
  • More than 350 secured members are in a dimension.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4.
