Your computer may indicate that your wireless network connection is unavailable after you resume your computer from hibernation in Windows XP (885293)

SYMPTOMS

After you resume your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer from hibernation, your computer may indicate that your wireless network connection is unavailable. This problem does not occur every time that you resume your computer from hibernation.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Restart your computer.
  • Put your computer in hibernation, and then resume your computer from hibernation.
  • Restart the Wireless Zero Configuration service. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
    2. Double-click Services and Applications, and then click Services.
    3. In the right pane, click Wireless Zero Configuration.
    4. On the Action menu, click Stop, and then click Start.
