A registry entry remains on a Systems Management Server 2003 Advanced Client computer after you remove a software update that was built by using the Windows Installer version 3.0 SDK (885266)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 SP1

SYMPTOMS

After you install a software update that was built by using the Windows Installer version 3.0 SDK (MSI 3.0) on a Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Advanced Client computer, when you use Windows Installer 3.0 to remove the software update, the following registry subkey is not removed correctly and remains:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Updates\SMS Advanced Client\<SMS Client Version>\<update>

In this example, <SMS Client Version> represents the SMS 2003 client that is installed on the SMS 2003 Advanced Client and <update> represents the software update that is installed on the SMS 2003 Advanced Client. The actual registry subkey may appear similar to the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Updates\SMS Advanced Client\2.50.2726.0018\SMS2003AC-KB885266-x86

If you try to enumerate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Updates\SMS Advanced Client subkey to determine the software updates that are installed on the SMS 2003 Advanced Client, you may receive incorrect update information. This problem may continue until the registry entry is removed.
