SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft SQL Server 2000, after you perform a self-update query, you may find that the non-clustered index is corrupted. You may also receive error messages that are similar to the following:
Server: Msg 8952, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Table error: Database 'badqueue', index 'repro.NC' (ID 1828201563) (index ID 2). Extra or invalid key for the keys:
Server: Msg 8956, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Index row (1:308:2) with values (i2 = 369 and i1 = 1 and ? = 61) points to the data row identified by ().
This problem may occur when the self-update query selects more than 3,000 rows of the table but not the whole table.
