SYMPTOMS
Assume the following scenario: A Winsock program is running on your Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer with Service Pack 4 (SP4) applied. Additionally, the hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article is installed on your computer:
839045 Socket applications quit with a WSAEWOULDBLOCK error in Windows 2000 Server
The socket program creates a socket and then uses the
WSAEventSelect function to select the FD_READ event. The socket program also uses the
WSAWaitForMultipleEvent function to wait for data on the listening socket.
In this scenario, you may notice the following symptoms:
- The socket program on the client computer does not return the FD_READ network event notification on the connected socket for the WSAEnumNetworkEvents function call.
- The WSAWaitForMultipleEvent function call is not returned when data arrives. Therefore, the function call times out.
- The socket program does not read data, even though the client computer is still connected to the listening socket.
- The socket program does not read data, even though there is data available to read from the socket.
