New and updated MapPoint Web Service map data source for Europe, North America, and the Asia Pacific region (884771)

INTRODUCTION

This article discusses the enhancements that have been made to Microsoft MapPoint Web Service 3.5 since its release in March 2004. Base maps were added to the MapPoint.EU data source and to the MapPoint.NA data source.

Additionally, a new data source that is named MapPoint.AP was added in August, 2004. MapPoint.AP was updated to include new base maps in January, 2005. MapPoint.AP source includes ten map styles and over 60 geographic entity types. Map data is available in eight languages.

Table 1 lists the capabilities of the MapPoint.AP data source.

This section describes the updates to the existing MapPoint data sources. It also provides detailed information about the new MapPoint.AP data source.

MapPoint.EU data source

New base maps have been added to the MapPoint.EU data source. These base maps support the following capabilities:
  • Athens, Greece The Athens base map supports finding locations and addresses. This base map also supports routing in the Athens metropolitan area.
  • Slovakia The Slovakia base map supports routing.
  • Gibraltar The Gibraltar base map supports routing.
  • Islands of Guernsey and Jersey, and Isle of Man The Islands of Guernsey and Jersey, and Isle of Man base maps support routing.

MapPoint.NA data source

A base map of Mexico has been added to the MapPoint.NA data source. This base map supports routing.

MapPoint.AP data source

The MapPoint.AP data source now contains base maps for the following countries and regions. Each country and region supports the following capabilities:
  • Australia The Australia base map supports finding locations and addresses. This base map also supports routing.
  • New Zealand The New Zealand base map supports routing.
  • Taiwan The Taiwan base map supports routing.
  • Singapore The Singapore base map supports routing.
  • Hong Kong The Hong Kong base map supports routing.
  • Malaysia The Malaysia base map supports routing.

Table 2 lists the entity types that the MapPoint.AP data source supports.

Note In the Description column, terms that are capitalized, such as CountryRegion, are parent entities. Entities that are not available in any data source, such as AdministrativeDivision, are at the upper levels of the entity hierarchy. These terms are included in this table for context.
