You are prompted for driver disk even though you did not press F6 when you ran the Setup program (884509)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Windows 2000, you may be prompted to specify additional drivers and insert a driver disk, even though you did not press F6 when you ran the Setup program. When you insert a driver disk and press ENTER, or when you try to specify a location for drivers, you may receive the following error messages:

Message 1
There is a problem with the .SIF file on the manufacturer supplied disk. Illegal or missing file types specified in Section Files.Scsi.SYMMPI. Setup can not use this disk or select an option.
Message 2
STOP 0xC000026C [Unable to load device driver] <driver_name>

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Setup program does not recognize any mass-storage devices present on the system.

RESOLUTION

If you have to install drivers for additional mass-storage devices, resolve this issue by restarting the computer and pressing F6 to load drivers when you are prompted by the Setup program. Follow the prompts to specify the location of the drivers that you want to install.
