The Host Integration Server 2004 Data Access Tool (DAT) creates a copy of a data source name (DSN) when the DAT converts the DSN if the name already exists (884382)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004

SYMPTOMS

When you convert a file data source name (DSN) to a system DSN in the Data Access Tool (DAT), the tool makes a copy of the data source if the name already exists as a System DSN. If you convert the File DSN a third time, DAT will add the characters "()". These characters are not valid in the Data Access Tool.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, rename the File DSN that you are converting to a name that does not exist as a System DSN.
