SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may notice the following problems. The following problems may occur when you try to play back content in Microsoft Windows Media Player 10:
  • Windows Media Player 10 does not start after you upgrade from a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Service Pack 2 system.
  • Microsoft Windows Media Rights Manager (WMRM) files do not play back after you upgrade.

CAUSE

Both of the problems are caused by the following:
  • Files are not upgraded that are required by Windows Media Player 10 to function correctly during the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 upgrade.
  • The upgrade does not run the Digital Rights Management (DRM) license migration utility. If you do not run this utility, encrypted content cannot be played back after an upgrade.
