The RichEdit control stores data that is not valid when you enter a surrogate pair that is not valid in the RichEdit control on computers that are running Windows XP or Windows 2000 (884047)

SYMPTOMS

On computers that are running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000, the RichEdit control stores data that is not valid when you enter a surrogate pair that is not valid in the RichEdit control. When you stream data from the RichEdit control by using the EM_STREAMOUT message, the data appears corrupted.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
