FIX: An application that is running on a Windows XP-based computer is not notified of memory resource notification events (884034)

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP, your application is not notified of memory resource notification events that are used to scale memory usage. For example, this problem may occur when you run Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 on a computer that is also running Windows XP.

If you are a developer and your application calls the CreateMemoryResourceNotification function, the LowMemoryResourceNotification object does not occur as expected.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows XP does not correctly set the memory resource notification events when a low memory condition or a high memory condition occurs on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in Windows XP Service Pack 2.
