INTRODUCTIONThis article describes a software update that you can
install to configure the Client Setup feature in Microsoft Windows Small
Business Server 2003 (Windows SBS). This update enables you to configure the
Client Setup feature to deploy Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) to
client computers that are running Windows XP Professional.
By default,
the Client Setup feature deploys Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) to all client
computers that are running Windows XP Professional. RESOLUTIONUpdate information The

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most
current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file
was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to
prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

Update installation instructionsTo prepare Windows SBS to deploy Windows XP SP2 to client
computers that are running Windows XP Professional, follow these steps on the
Windows SBS-based computer:
- Download the 884032 update and Windows XP SP2. To do this,
follow these steps:
- To download the 884032 software update, visit the
following Microsoft Web site:
- Click Download to start the download.
- When you are prompted to open or to save the file,
click Save.
- Click Desktop as the location to save
the file, and then click Save.
- When the download is completed, click
Close.
- To download the Windows XP SP2 network installation
package, visit the following Microsoft Web site:Note If you already have Windows XP SP2 on a CD, go to step
2.
- Repeat steps b through e for the Windows XP SP2
download. Make sure that you save the file to the desktop.
- Update the Windows SBS ClientApps5 folder with Windows XP
SP2. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click
Run, type cmd, and then click
OK.
- At the command prompt, type cd
%userprofile% \desktop, and then press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, type the following command, and
then press ENTER:
windowsxp-kb835935-sp2-enu.exe /x:Drive:\clientapps5\wxpsp2
Note Drive is the drive that contains the
ClientApps5 folder.
Note If you are extracting the Windows XP SP2 files from a Windows XP
SP2 CD, change to the drive of the Windows XP SP2 CD, and then type the
following command: xpsp2.exe /x:Drive:\clientapps5\wxpsp2 The files are extracted to the Wxpsp2 folder in the ClientApps5
folder.
Important You must extract the files to the Wxpsp2 folder. If you do not
use this name, the update procedure will not work. - When the file extraction is completed, click
OK.
- Install the 884032 update. To install the update,
double-click the SBS2003-KB884032-X86-ENU.exe file on the
desktop, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
- Delete the Wxpsp1 folder in your ClientApps5 folder. The
Wxpsp1 folder contains the Windows XP Service Pack 1 file bits. This is an
optional step.
Caution Before you complete this step, test that you have successfully
updated a client computer with Windows XP SP2. To do this, use the Windows SBS
Client Setup feature. For more information about how to use the Client Setup
feature, click Start, click Server
Management, click Client Computers in the left pane,
and then click More Information. On the
Contents tab, click Configure client
computers.
To delete the Wxpsp1 folder, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click
Run, type the following command, and then click
OK: Note ServerName is the name of the Windows
SBS-based computer.
- Right-click the Wxpsp1 folder, and then click
Delete.
- Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
