The network adaptor locks up after you experience a failed attempt to log on to a wired Ethernet Network by using 802.1X authentication on a Windows XP-based computer (884027)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64-Bit Edition (Itanium)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are using a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer.
  • You experience two failed attempts to log on to a wired Ethernet Network by using 802.1X authentication.
  • You successfully log on to the wired Ethernet Network by using 802.1X authentication.
  • You experience a third failed logon attempt.
In this scenario, the network adaptor locks up after the third failed logon attempt.

Note This symptom only occurs if you have not restarted the computer after the first two failed attempts to log on.
This problem occurs because the failure counter is not automatically reset after a successful logon. The network adaptor locks up after the failure counter records three failed logon attempts.
