You cannot use a scheduled task to install DirectX 9 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP (883912)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to use a scheduled task to install Microsoft DirectX 9 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows XP, the DirectX 9 installation does not finish. However, you can use a scheduled task to install Microsoft DirectX 9 if you schedule the task by using the at.exe command or the schtasks.exe command.CAUSEThis problem occurs because the universal INF files for DirectX are not accepted for an unattended installation on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP. The installation of files that are not system files is blocked.RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.
