Hotfix information

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Service pack information

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
To enable the fix provided by Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, you must add the DWORD registry entry WarnOnHTTPSToHTTPRedirect to the following registry subkeys for either "per-user" or "per-computer" installations.

For individual user accounts, or "per-user" installation, use the following subkey:For "per-computer" configurations, use the following subkey:The registry entry WarnOnHTTPSToHTTPRedirect takes the following two values:

• 1: Display the Security Alert message.
• 0: Do not display the Security Alert message.

To add the registry entry WarnOnHTTPSToHTTPRedirect for an individual user, follow these steps:
Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type WarnOnHTTPSToHTTPRedirect, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6. Type 0, and then click OK.

4. Type FEATURE_NO_WARN_ON_HTTPS_TO_HTTP_REDIRECT_KB883740, and then press ENTER.
5. Click FEATURE_NO_WARN_ON_HTTPS_TO_HTTP_REDIRECT_KB883740.
6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
7. Type iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
8. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
9. Type 1, and then click OK.
