Hotfix information
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To enable the fix provided by Microsoft
Windows XP Service Pack 2, you must add the DWORD registry entry WarnOnHTTPSToHTTPRedirect to the following registry subkeys for either "per-user" or "per-computer" installations.
For individual user
accounts, or "per-user" installation, use the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
For "per-computer" configurations, use the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
The registry entry WarnOnHTTPSToHTTPRedirect takes the following two values:
- 1: Display the Security Alert message.
- 0: Do not display the Security Alert message.
To add the registry entry WarnOnHTTPSToHTTPRedirect for an individual user, follow these steps:
Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings
- On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type WarnOnHTTPSToHTTPRedirect, and then press ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify.
- Type 0, and then click OK.
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

File information
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To enable this hotfix, you must add the following registry
subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_NO_WARN_ON_HTTPS_TO_HTTP_REDIRECT_KB883740
This subkey then has the registry entry iexplore.exe. This entry takes the following two values:
- 0: Display the Security Alert message.
- 1: Do not display the Security Alert message.
Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:
- Click Start, click Run,
type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
- On the Edit menu, point to
New, and then click Key.
- Type
FEATURE_NO_WARN_ON_HTTPS_TO_HTTP_REDIRECT_KB883740, and
then press ENTER.
- Click
FEATURE_NO_WARN_ON_HTTPS_TO_HTTP_REDIRECT_KB883740.
- On the Edit menu, point to
New, and then click DWORD Value.
- Type iexplore.exe, and then press
ENTER.
- On the Edit menu, click
Modify.
- Type 1, and then click
OK.
