BUG: Some DRM rights do not appear correctly on the License tab in Windows Media Player (883616)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 2000

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series, you have set the BeginDate value or the ExpirationDate value on a Windows Media content file.

If you also set the PlayCount right, the string may appear similar to the following on the License tab in the Properties dialog box:

s play(s) remaining

If you also set the BurnToCDCount right, the string may appear similar to the following:

s copy(s) to CD remaining

CAUSE

Windows Media Player is loading the string from a resource file in a way that prevents the string formatting value from being substituted correctly.

WORKAROUND

If you do not specify the ExpirationDate value or the BeginDate value, the other strings appear correctly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

This bug affects only the way that the player displays the strings in the UI. It does not affect the Digital Rights Management (DRM) rights of the content file.
