Exporting a large catalog to XML takes significantly longer than importing the same catalog (883504)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Feature Pack 1, when you export a large catalog to XML, it may take significantly longer than when you import the same XML catalog. For example, it may take 16 minutes to create a 35 MB XML file, but when you import the same catalog it takes only 2 minutes to complete.

CAUSE

In Commerce Server 2002 Feature Pack 1, performance was optimized only in the ImportXML method code.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Commerce Server 2002 service pack that contains this hotfix.
