You receive the "A modem error occurred, please check your line and try again" error message if you awaken your computer from Sleep mode while Entourage X for Mac is running (883404)

SYMPTOMS

If you awaken your computer from Sleep mode while Microsoft Entourage X for Mac is running, you may receive the following error message:
A modem error occurred, please check your line and try again.
This error message occurs even though Entourage X for Mac is not configured to use a modem. After you close the error message, Entourage X for Mac successfully downloads your e-mail messages.

WORKAROUND

Follow these steps to work around this problem:
  1. On the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Network.
  2. In the Show box, click Active Network Ports.
  3. Drag Built in Ethernet to the top of the list. This will cause Entourage X for Mac to use the Ethernet connection first.
If the problem still occurs after you complete the previous steps, and if you do not have to use the modem, you can disable the modem. To do this, follow these steps.

Note Do not use these steps if you require the modem for any other use. If you want to, you can safely ignore the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section because the error message does not prevent Entourage X for Mac from downloading your e-mail messages.
  1. On the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Network.
  2. In the Show box, click Active Network Ports.
  3. Click to clear the Modem Port check box.
