The Microsoft Operations Manager service stops unexpectedly and event 25681 is logged after you install Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 (883345)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Operations Manager 2005, the Microsoft Operations Manager service may stop unexpectedly, and an event that is similar to the following is logged in the Application log:Event Type: Error

Event Category: MOM Server
Event ID: 25681
Date: 5/17/2004
Time: 11:44:39 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
Computer: ComputerName
Description: Couldn't get Microsoft Operations Manager license information after 22 tries. The service will attempt restart. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://support.microsoft.com.This event indicates that the Microsoft Operations Manager service will try to restart. However, the service does not restart.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the computer cannot connect to the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) database to obtain license information.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps to manually restart the Microsoft Operations Manager service:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
  2. In Services, right-click MOM, and then click Start.
  3. Quit Services.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
