Before you use the MOM Management Pack Wizard to create a service monitoring rule, you must download and install the MOM 2005 Resource Kit. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
To use the MOM Management Pack Wizard to create a service monitoring rule, follow these steps:

1. Use an account that has administrative credentials to log on to the MOM 2005 computer where you installed the MOM 2005 Resource Kit.
2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Resource Kit, click Tools, double-click the Management Pack Wizard folder, and then double-click Mpwizard.exe.
3. On the MOM 2005 Management Pack Wizard Welcome page, click to enable the Windows Service Monitoring check box, and then click Next.
4. On the Role Name page, type a descriptive name in the Role name box, type a description in the Description box, and then click Next.
5. On the Components page, type Service in the box next to Add, click Add, and then click Next.
6. On the Windows Service Monitoring page, click Add. In the Select Windows Services dialog box, click the service that you want to monitor, and then click Add. Click the list under Component, select Service, and then click Next.
   
   Note The selected service component sends an Alert to the MOM Operator Console when the monitored service is not running.
7. On the Summary page, review your Management Pack selections, click Next, and then click Finished.
