Task items may be unavailable in the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Operator console (883337)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2005

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005, the items that are listed under Tasks in the details pane of the Microsoft Operations Manager Operator console may be dimmed and unavailable.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because these items are context-sensitive. The items are unavailable when they do not apply to the selected view.

For example, after you create an alert view task, all alert tasks are available in the details pane when you click Alerts in the console tree. However, when you click Events, only tasks that are specific to events are available in the details pane. The alert tasks are unavailable.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

There are two types of tasks: runtime tasks and console tasks. Runtime tasks are always available. Console tasks may have the following view types:
  • Alert
  • Event
  • Computer
An alert view console task is only available when an alert is selected in alert view. An event view console task is only available when an event is selected in event view. A computer view console task is available when an event of any view type is selected excepting the computer group view type.
