The MOM Administrator console or the MOM Operator console may not be able to connect to the MOM server after being reinstalled in Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 (883333)

For information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005, after you remove and then reinstall the MOM Administrator console or the MOM Operator console, the console may not be able to connect to the MOM server.CAUSEThis problem occurs because certain registry subkeys are not removed when you remove the MOM Administrator console or the MOM Operator console in MOM 2005. When you reinstall the MOM Administrator console or the MOM Operator console, the console may try to connect to the MOM server that is specified in these subkeys. Therefore, the connection may fail. The following subkeys are not removed when you remove the MOM Administrator console or the MOM Operator console:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mission Critical Software
- HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1935655697-562591055-1417001333-1118\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager
WORKAROUNDWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To work around this problem, manually delete the subkeys that are listed in the "Cause" section before you reinstall the MOM 2005 Administrator console or the MOM 2005 Operator console. To do this, follow these steps: - Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager - Right-click the subkey that you located in step 2, and then click Delete.
- Locate the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mission Critical Software - Right-click the subkey that you located in step 4, and then click Delete.
- Locate the following subkey:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1935655697-562591055-1417001333-1118\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager - Right-click the subkey that you located in step 6, and then click Delete.
- Quit Registry Editor.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
