You cannot use Select All or CTRL+A to select all alerts in Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 (883332)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Operations Manager 2005
SYMPTOMSYou cannot use some keyboard shortcuts in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 to select all the items in a window, such as the Alert view, of the MOM Operator console. Additionally, Select All is not available on the Edit menu. You can use the CTRL+HOME and the CTRL+END keyboard shortcuts to move to the start or the end of the list. However, you cannot use the following keyboard shortcuts: - CTRL+A to select all items
- CTRL+SHIFT+HOME to select all items from the current item to the first item in the list
- CTRL+SHIFT+END to select all items from the current item to the last item in the list
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because MOM 2005 disables the CTRL+SHIFT+HOME, the CTRL+SHIFT+END, and the CTRL+A keyboard shortcuts to increase performance. To retrieve records, MOM 2005 queries against the Views in the SQL database. Depending on the size of your network environment, the MOM Operator console may contain millions of records. The SQL database Views are generated dynamically to handle many records. Selecting several hundred records may cause the MOM Operator console to appear to stop responding. Therefore, MOM 2005 lets you select only up to 200 items in the MOM Operator Console.WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, use the SHIFT key to select multiple items. To do this, follow these steps: - In the list, click the first record that you want to resolve.
- Scroll down the list, press and hold the SHIFT key, and then click the last alert that you want to resolve.
Note You can select a maximum of 200 items at the same time. - Right-click any item that you have selected, point to Set Alert Resolution State, and then click a resolution. For example, click Resolved.
- Optionally, type a comment in the Resolve Alerts window, and then click OK.
Note If you click Cancel, the operation is canceled, and the selected items are not resolved.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
