"OneNote cannot connect to the shared session" error message when you try to join a shared session in OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1 (883288)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, Service Pack 1 (SP1)
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to join or try to connect to a shared session in Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you may receive the following error message: OneNote cannot connect to the shared session. The session address or password may be incorrect, or there may be network or firewall settings that affect the connection. For more information, see OneNote help. Note To automatically join a shared session in OneNote 2003 SP1, open the attachment in your invitation e-mail message. CAUSEThis problem may occur if the invitation e-mail message contains an invalid IP address. An invalid IP address may be created for the invitation e-mail message when the host computer is not connected to the network or to the Internet when the shared session is created.
For example, if you have a wireless connection and the connection was not established before the shared OneNote 2003 SP1 session is created, OneNote 2003 SP1 will generate an invalid IP address in the invitation. If the IP address starts with 127, for example 127.0.0.1:2302, it is a loop back address and not a valid IP address.RESOLUTIONTo avoid an invalid IP address in the invitation e-mail message when a shared session is created, make sure that you are connected to the network or to the Internet correctly.
