Patch for the Microsoft eLearning Library (MELL) Viewer for Windows XP SP2 Release (883083)

The information in this article applies to:

  • MSPRESS Microsoft eLearning Library Version 2.x

SUMMARY

If you are running the version of Internet Explorer included in Windows XP SP2 (and later), and attempt to install the training content using the MELL 2.x Viewer to a local hard drive, you will receive a warning message upon opening the collection, and will be unable to launch the lesson simulations. The version of Internet Explorer available in Windows XP SP2 (and later) will lock down the local machine zone, and block script execution and popup windows by default.

SYMPTOMS

If you try to run this product locally on a machine with Windows XP SP2 (and later) you could see a yellow security bar at the top of the IE window. This Information bar gives the following message, "to help Protect your safety, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options." The user must click the yellow Information bar and choose "Allow blocked content." Then they must click "Yes" to the following message " Enabling active Content on your local machine may harm your computer. Do you wish to continue?" Once the user chooses to continue the training will launch but the lesson simulations will not be able to be displayed.

RESOLUTION

Users who intend to install courses in the MELL 2.x Viewer to a local machine running Windows XP SP2 or later, and encounter these issues, must download a fix to view the simulations. The fix will update appropriate course files so that the simulations will display on the local machine.

The link to download the fix can be found here:

mellsp2fix.exe

Save the download to the local machine and run the executable to extract the files needed for the fix.

To install the tool, launch the motwfix.exe application.
