The PIN dialog box may not be displayed when you use a smart card to log on to a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services session (875506)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a smart card to log on to a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services session, the smart card personal identification number (PIN) dialog box may not be displayed. This problem occurs if the following Group Policy settings are configured on the destination computer:
  • Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on
  • Interactive logon: Message title for users attempting to log on

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, remove your smart card and then reinsert it into the smart card reader.
