A stop error may occur, or the video capture application may stop responding when you use a Logitech video capture camera in Microsoft Windows 98 (875444)

SYMPTOMS

You may use a Logitech video capture camera with a microphone to capture video and audio. However, when you stop the Logitech video capture camera, you may experience either of the following problems:
  • A stop error may occur with an error message that is similar to the following:
    A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:FF01DCb$ in VXD STREAM (01) +00000B34. The current application will be terminated.
  • No stop error occurs, but the application that you use to capture video and audio stops responding.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can upgrade to Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) or a later version.

Also, to work around this problem, you can disable audio capture.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Connect your computer that is running Windows 98 to a Logitech video capture camera with a microphone.
  2. Run the Microsoft utility that is named Graphedit.exe.

    Note The Graphedit.exe utility is included with the Microsoft DirectX software development kit (SDK).
  3. Click Create a new filter graph.
  4. Click Insert a filter into the graph.

    This inserts an Audio Capture Sources filter and a Video Capture Sources filter.
  5. Right-click Capture on the video renderer and on the audio renderer, and then click Render Pin.
  6. Click Play the graph to start the video capture and the audio capture.
  7. Click Stop the graph to stop the video capture and the audio capture.
  8. Repeat step 6 and step 7 for a while until the problem occurs.

    Note It does take some persistence to reproduce the problem. Make sure that both the video capture pin and the audio capture pin from the Logitech video capture camera are both connected to renderers.
