The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP4

SYMPTOMS

When you try to print an Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file, the file is not printed. This problem occurs when you are using a Mac OS 9-based client computer to print to a Windows 2000-based print server that is running Print Services for Macintosh. The following error appears in the application event log:
Type: Error
Source: MacPrint
Category: TrueImage Print Processor
Event ID: 4001
Description:
TrueImage Interpreter - internal error occurred during job processing. The job will not print.

CAUSE

This problem occurs after you apply Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) to the Windows 2000-based print server. Windows 2000 SP4 contains some updated fonts. The current implementation of Print Services for Macintosh cannot render these updated fonts.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Replace the fonts

Replace the following five fonts on your Windows 2000-based print server with the corresponding fonts from your Windows 2000 installation CD:
  • Arial (Arial.ttf)
  • Arial Bold (Arialbd.ttf)
  • Microsoft Sans Serif (Micross.ttf)
  • Times (Times.ttf)
  • Times Bold (Timesbd.ttf)
To replace the fonts, follow these steps:
  1. Expand the fonts from the Windows 2000 installation CD to a temporary folder. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
    2. Click Local Disk (C).
    3. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
    4. In the New Folder name box, type Fonts, and then press ENTER.
    5. Click Start, click Run, type the following, and then click OK:

      expand -r CD_drive:\i386\Font_name c:\fonts

Note CD_drive is the drive letter of the drive that contains the installation CD. Font_name is the name of one of the compressed fonts that you want to replace.
    6. Repeat the step "e" for each font that you want to replace.
Note The names of compressed fonts end with the extension .tt_.
  2. Remove the Windows 2000 SP4 fonts from the Windows 2000 Fonts folder:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\fonts, and then click OK.
    2. Hold down CTRL and click each of the five fonts to select them.
    3. On the File menu, click Delete, and then click Yes when you are prompted to confirm deletion.
  3. Install the original Windows 2000 fonts in the Windows 2000 Fonts folder:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\fonts, and then click OK.
    2. On the File menu, click Install New Font.
    3. Click the C:\Fonts temporary folder that contains the fonts that you want to install.
    4. In the Add Fonts dialog box, click Select All, click Copy fonts to Fonts folder, and then click OK.

Method 2: Use a different print method

Use one of the following methods to print PDF files:
  • Use a PostScript printer.
  • Use the Line Printer Daemon (LPD) service.
