SYMPTOMS

When you type or delete text in a table in Microsoft Word 2002 that is running on a Microsoft Terminal Server client, the text is slow to appear or disappear in the table.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the small-dots style border is applied to the table.

RESOLUTION

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Word 2002 post-Service Pack 3 Hotfix Package that is dated August 2, 2004. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

After you install this hotfix, follow the steps that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article to set the UseAIMM12 or the FastTableRenderOnIMETS, or both registry key and to activate the hotfix.

To activate this hotfix, use one of the following methods that is appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) 2002 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows Server 2000

To make this hotfix active if you use IME 2002 and Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2000, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Word 2002.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. Locate, and then click to select the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common\IME

  5. After you select the key that is specified in step 4, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type UseAIMM12, and then press ENTER.
  7. Right-click UseAIMM12, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  9. Locate, and then click to select the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Options

  10. After you select the key that is specified in step 9, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  11. Type FastTableRenderOnIMETS, and then press ENTER.
  12. Right-click FastTableRenderOnIMETS, and then click Modify.
  13. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  14. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

Method 2: Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) 2000 on Windows Server 2000

To make this hotfix active if you use IME 2000 and Windows Server 2000, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Word 2002.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. Locate, and then click to select the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Options

  5. After you select the key that is specified in step 4, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type FastTableRenderOnIMETS, and then press ENTER.
  7. Right-click FastTableRenderOnIMETS, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  9. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
