SYMPTOMS

If you use the Microsoft Office 2003 language settings to set the user interface of your Microsoft Office 2003 programs to Persian (Farsi), and then you close and reopen the Office 2003 language settings, the language of the text in the Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings dialog box changes to the Arabic language instead of to the English language.

Note To open the Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings dialog box, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if all the following conditions are true:
  • You set your Microsoft Windows default system locale to Persian (Farsi).
  • You installed the English version of Microsoft Office 2003.
  • You installed the Microsoft Office 2003 Arabic Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI).
  • You installed the Microsoft Office 2003 Edition Persian (Farsi) Interface Pack (LIP).

WORKAROUND

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To work around this issue, change the InstallLanguage DWORD Value in the registry to English (1033). To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Quit your Office 2003 programs.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open text box , type regedit and then click OK.
  4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\LanguageResources

  5. In the right-side pane, click InstallLanguage.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  7. In the Value data text box, type 409, and then click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
