SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Money to download your bank statement from your bank's Web site, the statement automatically downloads into Money. You prefer to save the statement and then manually import the file into Money.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if Microsoft Windows XP or if Microsoft Windows 2000 is configured to automatically open the file type that your bank statement uses. Your bank statement file may use any one of the following extensions:
  • .qif (Quicken Interchange Format)
  • .ofx (Open Financial Exchange file)
  • .ofc (Open Financial Connectivity file)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, configure the Confirm open after download setting for the file type that your statement uses. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open My Computer.
    • If you are using Windows XP, click Start, and then click My Computer.
    • If you are using Windows 2000, double-click My Computer on the desktop.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  3. Click the File Types tab.
  4. In the Extensions column, click the extension that your statement download uses.

For example, click QIF, click OFX, or click OFC.
  5. Click Advanced.
  6. Click to select the Confirm open after download check box.
  7. Click OK, and then click Close.
The next time that you download a statement, you can either open the file or save the file.

MORE INFORMATION

If you want the bank statement to automatically download into Money when you download a statement from your bank's Web site, follow these steps:
  1. Repeat steps 1 through 5 in the "Resolution" section.
  2. Click to clear the Confirm open after download check box.
  3. Click OK, and then click Close.
