BUG: The Posting.ReleaseOwnership method changes the posting state in Content Management Server 2002 (873126)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2002
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 SP1
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 SP1a
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to add a new console action in the Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 Edit console to let an author release ownership of a posting by using the Posting.ReleaseOwnership method, a problem occurs. The Posting.ReleaseOwnership method appears for authors who have rights to the posting. When the author clicks the Posting.ReleaseOwnership method to release ownership of the posting, ownership of the posting is released to everyone. However, the state of the posting is changed to a "Saved" state value.
The product documentation states that the Posting.ReleaseOwnership method releases ownership of a posting. Therefore, all other authors with sufficient permissions are supposed to be able to make changes to the posting. However, the product documentation states that releasing ownership for a posting does not change its state value. However, the state value is changed. WORKAROUNDThe workaround for this problem is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Microsoft Product Support Services may be able to provide a workaround if the scenario is different from the following scenario: Workaround scenario- After the author submits the page to the editor for approval, the editor edits the page and then saves the page.
- The editor declines the page and then releases the ownership of the page.
- The state of the page is change to the "Saved" state instead of the "Decline" state.
To work around this problem, you have to create a new console action that replaces the "Decline" state. This new console action has to combine both the ReleaseOwnership method and the "Decline" action. This new console action runs the ReleaseOwnership method first. This unlocks the page. When the new console action runs the "Decline" action, the status is set to the "EditorDecline" status, and the posting is unlocked. STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in Microsoft Content Management Server 2002.
