The Recipient Update Service does not update objects correctly when Exchange 2000 Server is running in a Windows Server 2003 forest (873059)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Recipient Update Service in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server to update recipient objects in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 forest, the Recipient Update Service does not update the objects correctly. For example, the Recipient Update Service does not recognize changes that are made to group membership.
If you use the Exchange 2000 Active Directory Connector (ADC), the ADC may not replicate group membership changes from the Active Directory directory service to the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 directory. CAUSEThis problem occurs because the Recipient Update Service on an Exchange 2000 Server computer does not accurately detect updates to linked attributes in Active Directory when the following conditions are true: - The updates occur on a domain controller that is part of a Windows Server 2003 forest.
- The Windows Server 2003 forest is set to the Windows Server 2003 forest functional level (level 2).
This problem also affects Exchange Server 5.5 computers if you are running Exchange Server in mixed mode. Because the Recipient Update Service does not detect all the updates, not all the changes are replicated through the ADC to the Exchange Server 5.5 directory.
