SYMPTOMS
A computer that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server may experience the following problems when an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) client looks up e-mail addresses in a message that contains more than 1,600 addresses in the To box, the Cc box, or the Bcc box:
- Memory leaks occur in one or more of the following processes:
- Inetinfo.exe
- Store.exe
- Mad.exe
- The following event is logged in the System log: Event ID: 9582
Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: Performance
Description:
The virtual memory necessary to run your Exchange server is fragmented in such a way that normal operation may begin to fail. It is highly recommended that you restart all Exchange services to correct this issue. - The computer stops responding.
RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Because of file dependencies, this update requires Microsoft
Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.
